Touchstone Family Association

Touchstone is a non-profit community based social service agency. We have been providing services to Richmond and nearby areas since 1983.

Our services have primarily focused on preserving and enhancing family relationships. Through qualified staff, we offer a wide variety of professional services to the community.

Celebrate Chinese New year and more!

This week is proving to be one that reflects a multifaceted and multi- cultural perspective of the community and our ever expanding global society and a chance for the family to participate in and be part of a number of significant dates. It is a prime time to log off and join in, talk not text, and connect to the community.

We have Chinese New Year, Year of the Dragon. Check out the local celebrations posted on the City of Richmond website and join in: www.richmond.ca. Wednesday is Robbie Burns Day so celebrate with the Scotch (people that is) and maybe taste a bit of haggis. You can wrap up the week as the 27th is Family Literacy day. Share with your friends a favorite author, with your family your favorite book or read the kids your favorite story, or better yet, tell a story of family and where you came from. The Richmond Public Library has lots to offer all ages. Visit their website at: www.yourlibrary.ca

Thank you!

In a world where large charities can afford to support their causes with national campaigns and events there are the very unique community based organizations who continue to respond to the everyday issues.

Everyday issues that, for a lot of families , through chance or circumstance, can prove to be overwhelming. Like us, these donors, are trying to make the world a better place –one family at a time. So when individuals and foundations seek us out to provide the financial support there is the added "value of validation" for the work that we are committed to. That we are not alone in our belief that family is the first community we belong to and the need to advocate for and provide barrier free support services.

Touchstone enjoys donations from many persons and organizations which allows us to provide those services and we do our best to recognize them. But there are individuals and organizations who do so without wanting the public recognition for their generosity. So in continuing to receive these "gifts" we thought we would just simply post a

Touchstone's CARF Accreditation Completed

Happy New Year! Well the accreditation site visit has been completed.

Touchstone was extremely pleased with the results and the hard work put in by the two surveyors. They were thorough in their approach and provided some invaluable consultations. Their report will now be submitted to CARF for final review and we should have final report in about six to eight weeks at www.touchfam.ca. We will certainly be posting excerpts of it for information.

Touchstone remains strongly committed to this process as we believe not only does it challenge our organization to self improve but we, in turn, challenge our selves. We believe it makes us a stronger and more responsive service provider We know that this is reflected in the feedback we, not only get from persons we serve ,but the CARF team, as well. A highlight for us, at the conclusion of the visit, was the acknowledgement of the exemplary development and maintenance of community partnerships. We know that Richmond is unique and committed to the collaboration and cooperation that is needed to do this. Therefore, it is an acknowledgment to all of us and we thank all of those partners who participated in this survey and for their input. We also recognize the enthusiasm and commitment hat our staff make on a daily basis that adds even more value to our quality of service.

Should you be curious about CARF the organization we encourage you to visit them at www.carf.org.

Update: Restorative Justice Week Presentation

The Restorative Justice (RJ) presentation, November 17, in honour of Restorative Justice Week was well attended.

This year, we explored how the values and principles of restorative justice could be applied throughout different systems or institutions in our society. We viewed a RCMP produced documentary that captured a real community justice forum, bringing together people who were affected by a crime in their community. This was a great example of the power of restorative justice in holding people accountable and healing people's wounds.

We look forward to hosting Restorative Justice Week in 2012. Stay connected for this and other RJ news.

Thank you to Restorative Justice in BC for the support! Visit the RJ BC website at www.rjbc.ca.
